01. DARDO MX
DARDO MX is an experiential, editorial, and living art project. Its ultimate goal is to create a modern Noah’s Ark for amphibian preservation – building nature-identical habitats for the protection and preservation of endangered and threatened species of frogs. DARDO’s mission springs from Sal’s sense of responsibility towards these creatures. On his journeys through the jungles of Colombia and Peru, one theme remains consistent: humans are destroying ecosystems. Sal’s mission is to intervene in the conservation of various species, which represent a significant “Biochemical Treasure” for humanity. He does this through literally building frog habitats on a micro scale, recreating the natural environments he sees under threat every day.

02. Getting Acquainted
When back in Mexico City from his adventures, Sal takes the time to explore architecture that inspires him. From the baroque, to art deco, to functionalism, CDMX is an architectural treasure hunt, housing several renowned architects’ homes that now serve as museums, cultural centers, or culinary spots. Sal’s favorites include QEl Nido de Quetzalcoatl by Javier Senosian, BCasa Luis Barragán, and TTetetlán.
Whether in pursuit of research, or simply to enjoy the colorful creatures that pass through it, Sal often wanders the FFish Market in Morelos. It is the most significant wholesale fish and seafood market in Mexico and one of the largest of its kind in the world. Far from a tourist spot, but well worth a visit for those looking for something different, it’s a kaleidoscopic, multicolored and chaotic spot where you can find something for the aquarium (or for your plate). Sal makes it a weekly ritual – sometimes, he finds a gem he can’t resist bringing home. When not searching for new additions to his fish tanks, Sal frequents the MMercado de Antigüedades de La LagunillA in the city center – go on Sundays and you may find him there.

03. WORTH VISITING
If you’re on a walk through the city, a must-visit creative space is N“Not a Gallery”, in Juárez, where different art forms merge seamlessly, everything from tattoos to artisanal coffee. Juarez is a neighborhood known for its dynamic blend of historic architecture, cultural institutions, bustling streets, and contemporary restaurants. It’s home to art galleries, pop-up spaces, and artistic endeavors. Here, Sal exhibits one of his “living art” pieces. For coffee aficionados, Sal suggests C Constela Café or CCasa Bruna.
If you’ve got a spare early morning (or a full day) Sal recommends you check out the trajineras (boats) in XXochimilco, where you’ll encounter the chinampas, ancient Toltec agricultural systems. A chinampa is essentially a man-made island created on freshwater lakes. In places like Tenochtitlán (the Aztec capital situated where Mexico City stands today), the chinampa system was integrated with the urban landscape. Canals between chinampas moved people and goods across the ancient city. Today they are a UNESCO World Heritage site – and one worth a visit. Nearby, the CCuemanco plant market offers a diverse range of plant life for the garden or your home (take cash!). If you’re keen on venturing out, Sal recommends CCatemaco in Veracruz – a jungle experience with a must-visit lake.

04.moving around the city
“I live here because I love it. CDMX has offered diversity throughout my life’s phases; the city is boundless.” Sal explores the city on foot or by metro, praising its cleanliness and safety. MMetro Sevilla is closest to one of the newest cultural hubs, RRevuelta, Queer House, on Puebla street. Sal suggests visiting the gallery and enjoying a drink on the terrace.
“Street food is in every Mexican's DNA”
05.Culinary Secrets
Like many of Mexico City’s iconic restaurants, greenery is a critical, almost architectural feature. For Sal, P PLANTASIA in Roma Norte is right on point, with greenery spilling from every corner, and a delicious vegan menu. For a livelier dinner, SSALÓN PALOMILLA in Roma Norte offers the perfect backdrop to gossip with friends, preferably while nursing a CONDESA GIN under the open sky.
I try to minimize meat consumption, but I can’t resist tacos.” Street food is in every Mexican’s DNA, and Sal is no exception. The best tacos place in CDMX is a constant source of debate, but his top pick is “Los Primos” between Cozumel and Puebla. Seafood lovers should try M“MI COMPA CHAVA”. For international Lebanese cuisine, SSHUF in Prado Norte is a must-visit.
06. after dark
As the sun goes down, Mexico City changes gears. For Jazz enthusiasts, CCasa Franca promises a relaxing atmosphere. Those seeking a more underground vibe can head to SSic Community Club on Saturdays. When it comes to creating habitats, Sal not only crafts eco-environments but also designs spaces to unwind and dance. EESTÉREO in Juárez stands out on Fridays, known for its themed nights, POP, drag shows, ice cream machines, diverse outfits, and music. Sal’s signature sculptural touch is evident here, making it his favorite spot to savor Condesa Gin.
